For Prayer

Prayer for Val and the Good News Team

Thank you for your prayers for Val and the Good News Team during the recent violence and political upheaval in Thailand. Even though Bangkok is relatively calm again, tensions remain due to the unresolved underlying cause of this unrest.

Please continue to pray for safety for Val and the Team, especially as they travel to minister to the schools of Thailand.

Please also continue to pray for this nation, that a peaceful and lasting resolution to the political situation can be achieved.

Prayer for Murray and Shona Shearer

Murray writes "We're still hanging in there at San Roque, as there is no 'official' (ie, forced) demolition date yet, but it's certainly in the pipeline. Meantime, folks are being picked off as 'volunteers'.

We will eventually need to find a new community, as moving to the relocation site is not a very favourable option (ie, it's miles away)."

Please continue to hold this family in your prayers.

Please stand with Val and the Good News Team at this time of tremendous political upheaval in Thailand.

Val is normally fairly calm about the dramas that go on over there, but she is quite worried at the moment. As the Government crack down on the redshirts there has been a great deal of violence and arson in the city, and so the risk of random bullets or grenades is greatly increased.

Please stand with us in seeking God for the protection of this team.

They write:

This week we’ll start planning for a new cartoon booklet to use in school outreaches.

Pray with us for God’s guidance and creativity in this, and also for some financial miracles so we can get these booklets out to schools all over Thailand.

Prayer for Shearers

Murray writes:

Grace has just turned 4, and we had a rather chaotic party at our house with nearly 60 kids from the neighborhood joining in!

They all absolutely loved it, but it was just a bit overwhelming for dear Grace.

To make it up to her, we had a special family outing and mama took her to join the library; getting her 5 books out really made her feel like a big 4-year-old.

Please continue to hold this family in your prayers.

Recent News

Good news from Bangladesh

Vijaya reports good news from Bangladesh.

There is a very good intake of students studying at CDC this year. The radio ministry continues to expand and bear fruit - a talkback on faith has lots of people engaging.

Update from John and Linda Watson

Since returning from Slovenia and Turkey, John & Linda have been suffering from winter flu.

Linda is speaking at Gateway, and they are soon leading a camp for an Auckland Church.

The big thing further ahead, for which they would appreciate prayer is a trip to China in October. They are currently preparing for a conference there as well as getting all the plans and logistics sorted. They very much need and appreciate our prayer for these things and their on-going ministry.

Val and the Good News Team

Val has returned to Wellington to be with her mother, who has been quite unwell.

This comes in the midst of a very busy time - Val having just returned form the States where she has been working on her thesis, and lots on for the Good News Team - where there is a reshaped leadership team settling in, the annual magazine to complete, as well as the normal work of sharing the gospel in schools and responding to the hundreds of letters from children enrolled in the correspondence course, and much more.

And when Val returns to Bangkok she is needing to shift house too!

More news from San Roque

Murray, Shona and Grace have returned from a much needed break away to find that another part of San Roque squatter community is about to be bulldozed in the next few days.

Court action is proceeding to prevent this, alongside efforts to secure just treatment of people - some of whom have lived in this community for more than 20 years.

Whatever happens, the implications for the poor residents of San Roque are profound. It also means Muz & Sho are needing to consider their future living situation, in the midst of all their other responsibilities and pressures.
